Junto al Premio Nobel José Saramago, intervienen otros intelectuales y ciudadanos conscientes de la necesidad de frenar a toda costa la especulación urbanística. La película es una reflexión sobre el modelo actual de turismo y desarrollo. No sólo se ha puesto de relieve su aspecto más conocido, el de la corrupción empresarial y política, sino el que incide de manera perturbadora sobre la ecología humana y natural, lesionando la dignidad de las personas y la armonía del medio donde éstas viven. El núcleo del film es una antigua casa de salineros. Situada hasta hace pocos años en una playa, a la orilla del mar, se encuentra ahora a muchos metros de la orilla, cercada por un gran complejo turístico que ha devastado esa parte de la costa, antes llamada Berrugo, entre Playa Blanca y Papagayo, en el municipio de Yaiza. Como si fuera la aldea de Asterix, la Casa de Berrugo ha resistido durante años los embates desarrollistas que han pretendido hacerla desaparecer. Su dueños son los hermanos Medina Cáceres, nacidos en esta vivienda que era propiedad de sus padres desde 1905. A pesar de la avanzada edad de los hermanos, su resistencia a abandonar su casa se ha hecho legendaria dentro y fuera de Lanzarote. Esta lucha de largos años, es descrita por sus protagonistas y comentada por quienes viven de cerca el salvajismo arquitectónico en la isla que hasta hace pocos años fue la gran reserva del turismo ecológico en Canarias. Venice, Louisiana: Interview by Catherine Craig -BP is blocking access to rescuing turtles and is incinerating turtles in the oil.- Eyewitness Mike Ellis, a Boat Captain working for BP & The Coast Guard has been working on Sea Turtle rescues, talks about BPs practices of rounding up and burning oil soaked wildlife…. He also describes the wildlife as being ‘chocolate covered’, and describes the headaches workers are suffering, however he cannot differentiate between a toxic air induced headache or a headache caused by BP and their total lack of, well, anything. There are dozens of boats that can go in and try and scoop these turtles out before they burn anything. Further, BP is simply not allowing them within miles of the area, irrespective of whether there is ANY burning going on. So even where there is no burning going on, BP is keeping them out of there.
